science journalism & environmental communications *

I’m an award-winning freelance science journalist working at the nexus of science, nature, and culture. I tell stories that deepen our capacity for wonder and bring us closer to the natural world and each other.

Through written, audio, and visual media, I translate complex science topics and explore environmental narratives that deepen our understanding of what it means to be denizens of Earth.

Trained as a lab chemist and field ecologist, my perspective is informed by my knowledge of natural systems and appreciation for beauty—especially the kind found in unexpected places.

as a professional

My work has appeared in The Mercury News, Popular Science, The Atlantic, Hakai Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, Bay Nature, Chemical & Engineering News Magazine, and more, covering topics like biodiversity, climate resilience, conservation, biomimicry, and more.

As the host for multiple seasons of Save the Redwoods League’s I’ll Go If You Go podcast, I explored the intersections of identity, careers, and conservation through conversations with emerging environmental leaders and community builders.

I was the developmental editor for a National Outdoor Book Award-winning book “The Killer Whale Journals” published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

Recently, I’ve begun producing, directing, and shooting short documentary films, bringing conservation stories to life through visual storytelling. As a Jackson Wild 2023 Media Lab Fellow, I created a documentary short for The Nature Conservancy WY. Ask me about my current projects.

With a Master’s in Science Communication from UC Santa Cruz, a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University, field experience researching ecology, and work experience in land conservation, I bring a wide range of knowledge and skills to my work. I love getting my hands dirty and my boots in the mud.

I’m dedicated to amplifying under-recognized voices and ideas with a focus on environmental and social issues that shape our understanding of science and our collective future. I love talking about nature-based solutions that empower people to be good stewards.

I’m an enthusiastic supporter and former Ambassador for Girls Who Click, a non-profit empowering young women in the field through free workshops and photography and videography mentorships.
